With the progress of esthetic medicine, sophisticated beauty treatments that enable instant and effective results with no downtime and with minimal performance time have also developed. With treatments like this, it is possible to freshen up and rejuvenate the face by up to a few years in only 15 minutes. When we are talking about facial esthetic treatments, hyaluronic fillers are usually the most common association. They have gained popularity since their effect is visible in a very short time.
Can all the zones be treated with all the fillers?
Fillers, depending on the place and region of injection, restore the skin’s lost volume, reduce, and smoothen the wrinkles, give back elasticity, and subtly reshape and redefine lips and face contours (cheekbones and chin). By injecting them into the skin, we not only fill out the wrinkles and restore the lost volume, but also hydrate the skin, and it has been proven that this leads to the regeneration and production of new collagen. However, there is a question of whether all the fillers are good for treating all the zones and what is the right "density" for a certain region. They can be used in rejuvenation, but also in reshaping and beautifying, for example, in nose straightening, lip augmentation, and removal of bags under the eyes since some people are simply born with them. The right time to use them is on time to slow down the aging process for the results to be as natural as possible and for the skin to be healthy. We all age in different ways, this depends on genetics, how much we take care of ourselves, and whether we smoke, or overdo it with sun exposure. Somebody who is 30 can look like they are more than 40, while some people in their 40s look absolutely amazing. The important thing when applying a filler is not to distort the proportions of the face. The Golden Ratio must be followed, and we have to make sure that nothing on the face "stands out".
A filler is a hyaluronic acid, and it draws water to itself, almost like a moisturizing cream that you apply under the skin. It stimulates elastin synthesis and produces new collagen around itself. Also, there are different densities since we have different layers and thicknesses of the skin. The density of the filler depends on the region. Fillers of higher density are applied around the cheeks, while thinner fillers are used in sensitive zones, such as around the lips. The doctor must know about different filler densities. There are thin fillers, such as Restylane Skinbooster Vital or Juvederm Volite. These fillers do not go deep under the skin. They are applied in almost a therapeutic way to moisturize and rejuvenate the skin. After that, we have more "solid" fillers that go into thinner parts of the skin. Sometimes we use fillers that do not get integrated and that will provide the patient with a lifting effect on the cheekbones or the chin. However, sometimes we want fillers that give volume and get integrated into the mimics of the face itself. A doctor must know about the filler densities. Skin boosters or thin fillers, such as Restylane Kysse or Volbella are used for moisturizing the lips. Thin fillers are ideal for nasolabial wrinkles in case they are mild. Juvederm Voluma or Juvederm lift can be used for deeper ones. I don’t like to use a filler that is too hard for reshaping the nose, I prefer something with a good old G Prime. I believe Restylane NASHA technology to be the best.
What is the optimal quantity of fillers for the desired result?
The optimal quantity of filler that is injected also varies. On the list of treatments where incredible results are achieved with 1 ml of filler is the nose. Great expertise is needed to reduce the bump on the nose and lift the tip of the nose, and for the people to start breathing normally again. In this zone, I often use up less than 1 ml, sometimes even 0.30 ml for a result that can last for up to five years. When it gets to bags under the eyes and lips, we can achieve excellent results with 1 ml. If someone comes at an older age with a great loss of volume in the face and desires a change, this is a case of non-surgical lifting that requires packages of 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 ml of filler. In this case, 1 ml will not do anything. When we say 12 ml, it sounds like a lot, but it actually fits on a tablespoon and is not too much for a radical change of the entire face.
When we talk about filler applications, it is essential to have a doctor with an artistic eye who knows the anatomy and their patient, as well as a good-quality filler that needs to be applied to the right layer of the skin to achieve optimal results. Unfortunately, there might be some undesirable side effects if the application is performed by an unskilled professional, and no one wants that - least of all your face.
