Thread veins are small blood vessels that are seen through the surface of the skin. Thread veins can be referred to as broken veins however, the veins are not actually broken, they are enlarged. Blood vessels are also referred to as Telangiectasia.

The hormonal change caused by the menopause can result in thread veins as women often experience thinning of the skin throughout this time. Excessive alcohol can also cause thread veins as alcohol causes the blood vessels to expand and the weaken the collagen.
