Sagging skin is loose skin that appears to hold no definition due to the lack of muscle underneath. Sagging skin is commonly found on the jawline, upper arms, stomach and thighs.

Collagen and Elastin are the primary factors that ensure that your skin is firm. As we age, the skin is known to lose its elasticity and the production of collagen reduces. As a result, sagging skin can occur meaning that a person can look older than their years.

A person's genetics can cause them to develop sagging skin. As we age the muscles that support the skin deteriorate and can sometimes allow fat to build in those areas - forming sags. As the body retains the fluid, the skin can become puffy and sag further. In addition, the ageing process makes it harder for the skin to shed its dead skin cells. This can also cause the occurrence of sagging skin.

As well as ageing, sagging skin can occur from losing a substantial amount of weight in a relatively short time frame. Sun damage can also play an instrumental role in sagging skin as the skin wrinkles and produces fine lines, progressively forming sagging skin.
