Moles

Moles

Moles are a common type of growth on the skin that appears on almost everyone. They generally grow as small, brown spots during childhood and adolescence and may fade or disappear as you get older.

Moles are caused by clusters of pigmented cells called melanocytes and are generally harmless. On rare occasions, moles can become cancerous, so it is important to monitor them in order to detect early signs of malignant melanoma.

While typically forming as a brown spot, moles can come in a range of different colours, shapes and sizes. Hormonal changes in adolescence and pregnancy may also cause moles to become bigger, darker, and more numerous.

Some moles can become large and unsightly and so often people chose to have them removed.
