Smoker’s lines are vertical lines that are located around the mouth area. The wrinkles are caused by a number of factors, including genetics, age, and smoking. It is not just smokers that are at risk of developing these lines though. Any repetitive habit that makes your lips pucker can cause wrinkles on the upper lip. This includes chewing gum, whistling and drinking out of a bottle. After some time, the vermillion border of the lip becomes distorted and bleed lines can develop.
The severity of these wrinkles depends on the size of the lips and the thickness of the skin. The thicker the skin, the less likely you are to develop smoker’s lines. This is why more women tend to suffer from them than men.
