Rejuvenation of backs of hands, decolettage, neck and face

In the past it has always been possible to rejuvenate the face through plastic surgery or non-surgical procedures, but the problem has always been that the hands, decolletage and neck continued to age giving the game away! Now with Restylane Vital we can very effectively rejuvenate backs of hands, decolettage, face and neck.

What is Restylane Vital and how does it work?

It is one of the most recent additions to the Q-MED range and was created with their unique NASHA technology. It is not strictly a filler, but it simply restores the hyaluronic acid which the nature has taken away, and as has been shown in a pioneering medical study, Restylane products induce new collagen production in the process. Quite simply Restylane Vital moisturises from within, and provides long lasting hydration to the areas treated, which expensive creams can never achieve.

Hyaluronic acid and its water binding capacity decline with age and can account for some of the most striking features of the aging skin including: wrinkles, roughness, less turgidity, loss of elasticity and protruding veins. Excessive sun exposure contributes to skin aging through UVA radiation directly reducing natural hyaluronic acid, resulting in dehydration. Further to this the passage of time and photoageing impair the production of elastin and collagen further contributing to the continuing aging of the skin.

The Restylane Vital treatments replace the lost hyaluronic acid and collagen, hydrate from within, and therefore plump up and rejuvenate the aging hands, decolettage and face.

What does the procedure involve and how long does it work?

Restylane Vital is injected via a very small needle with very small deposits being placed deep in the skin throughout the area being treated. For optimal results, an initial course of 3 treatments at 4 week intervals is recommended. After that a 6 monthly maintenance treatment may be required, although in time these maintenance treatments become more and more infrequent.

Does it hurt?

The treatment takes about 15-30 minutes, and is not very painful at all. Depending on the patient’s pain threshold we can numb the skin with a topical cream.

Are there any side effects?

Some injection related side-effects can occur including redness, tenderness, swelling and bruising and none of these are ever very serious and they will resolve in a matter of days. Because we are treating quite exposed areas such as your hands, careful planning of the social calendar for a day or two after the procedure is necessary.

Major long term side-effects are incredibly rare, and hypersensitivity reactions are reported to be as rare as 1 in 20,000 according to latest research.

Aftercare

• Do not consume excessive alcohol for 24 hours
• Do not do any aerobic exercise for 24 hours after the procedure
• If you get any bruising do apply ice and arnica cream. Mineral based make up can be applied immediately after the procedure
• If you bruise easily, you may want to take arnica tablets for 1 day before the procedure and for 5 days afterwards.
• If you are prone to cold sores around the mouth, and this is the area which you want to be treated, ask your GP to prescribe zovirax tablets for you, to be taken just before and for a few days after the procedure.
• We will massage the areas treated thoroughly straight after the treatment, but you can do some gentle massage at home over a clean cloth.
• Try to avoid sun beds and saunas for 3-4 days after the procedure.
